liked it

I liked it enough to recommend it to a few people and the characters were great. It was well written and you do root for Isla throughout the entire book. It's worth a read.

But on the other hand, it felt kind of lackluster in many parts because it just felt way too similar to other books like Three Dark Crowns, Caraval, and a few other books. Now I don't think having books that are similar in theme and stuff to other books is a bad thing at all but when it's a little too similar it just loses the spark for me.
I guessed a lot of what would happen and what was coming way beforehand because of the similarities and direction. So in the end I felt like it was good but not good enough to read again or rave about.
Another small thing I would say is that for me the war tension just wasn't there for me. The love, friendships, and competition were good but I never got the sense of doom or foreboding that I guess I was searching for seeing as how this competition has seriously dangerous worldly consequences.

But that's just my opinion and experience. It definitely isn't a bad book at all.
