Releasing Chapter 0.5: 14 Years Ago
Hey Guys! I am releasing the first chapter of my book! (YAY!!)
If you don't know what my book is about I'll give you the mock cover and story info below before I give you the first chapter!
As you can see I have .5 chapters. This is NOT a mistake. These are chapters that are shorter and go back in time to important parts of Meliones past.
Story Info!!
My name is Melione
and I am a Death Dealer. I come from a long line of death seers. I don't see dead people but I do see how and when people will die. If people found out that I was not only a death seer but a death dealer there would be a large bounty on my head. I would be turned into a weapon and forced to kill everyone I love including the necromancer sharing my body, Cassian. The ability to change peoples fates has only been seen in one other. My great great great...... Grandfather Hybris, Cassians best friend, The first Death Dealer. that power is not taken lightly especially when the fate of the world is at hand. It's up to me to decide who I trust and protect the people I love in the process. If only it was easy. But there is no light and dark in this world. Only shades of grey.
Here We Go!!
Chapter 0.5: 14 Years Ago
Lauren, dressed in a lilac t-shirt and jeans, picks up her tiny three-year-old daughter. Her long chestnut brown hair swings as she walks and her green eyes stare up the stairs glazed as though in a trance. Lauren sings softly the lyrics of 'If I Die Young' in a sweet melodic voice. Melione is crying in her mother's arms, her black hair tied in two pigtails and her pink dress torn in various places as though she was mauled by the stuffed wolf grasped precariously with her tiny bone-white fingers. As they climb up the stairs Lauren seems barely aware of the fact that Melione is crying. She wears a calm smile with such a manic angle to it that it seems sewed onto her face with invisible threads.
Lauren turns into the master bathroom and places Melione in the glass shower. Her smile lifts a bit just on the right side and her green eyes gleam with a murderous glint. She grasps the shower handle and turns the water onto cold before leaning down and blocking the drain. Lauren does this with such ease and ordinary motion that if anyone was around they would think she was going through daily activities. As Melione continues to cry her small grey eyes puffy and red, Lauren grabs a toothbrush off the counter and puts it in between the shower door handles. Melione cries harder realizing she is trapped by glass but Lauren just smiles that same sickly sweet smile dripping with so much unseen malice and insanity that it would have made any sane person uneasy to witness.
“Mellie. Stop crying, monster. You can fool your father but not me.” Lauren sits with her back against the wall and watches as the shower slowly fills up leaking from the sides of the glass door slightly. Melione cries and bangs on the glass with her tiny hands. This doesn't faze her mother as she stares at the shivering girl with haunting interest. After a little bit, Melione stops banging on the glass and falls shivering, her usually red lips turning blue. Lauren turns around still smiling as she hears the front door open.
“Honey I am home!” Jason yells. Lauren runs out of the room and down the stairs to the blue front door to greet her husband like an excited dog running for their owner.
“Hey, honey-bear.” She says wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him passionately on the mouth. He smiles crookedly his grey eyes lighting up.
“It's good to see you too. Where is Melione?” He asks looking around the room for a wisp of her black hair or a glimpse of her pink dress.
“Melione? Who’s Melione?” Lauren asks whistling lightly. Jason drops her arms and backs up startled and sick to his stomach. His wary grey eyes stare into her deranged green ones.
“Where is Melione? What have you done?” He asks. His already face pale drains of even the slightest color. He runs past her to the sound of the crying he hadn't realized was there before. He turns into the bathroom slipping on the tile and his face twists in fright and horror as he witnesses Melione drowning in the shower. In fright, he yanks the glass door open breaking the toothbrush in half. Grasping the shower handle he turns off the water and removes the drain blocker. Jason climbs in and grabs Melione’s frail shaking frame. Once in his arms, his face softens only slightly as he carries her over and sets her on the bed. Grabbing a towel frantically from the closet he dries her off and Melione coughs and sputters.
“I’m so sorry Mell. Please forgive me.” He says breathing into her soaked hair. Holding her trembling body against his warm chest with one arm he grabs his phone and dials a number. With a click, it connects. “Dad? Yes, I need your help. Please come as soon as you can. It's Melione. Lauren just tried to kill her." There was a pause. "Yes. I thought she made a breakthrough. Her therapy was working and so was the medication.” He says tears in his eyes as he looks from his ill-fated shivering three-year-old to his damningly quiet and still smiling wife leaning against the doorframe. Pushing past his wife in the doorway he can’t help but think about what would have happened if he had not come home early. What could have happened? What would have happened?

Clean tan couches shrouded in the darkness of the room. Beautiful canvas pictures of flowers and trees barely visible in the small amount of light peeking through the shutters. The shutters were drawn closed to make the room dim but not dark. Light but not bright. The man occupying this room had them drawn for the sake of the small pale 4-year old girl. Her black hair is long and wavy covering her face. The man, an esteemed child psychologist, and therapist rubs his tan face and sighs. He wears comfortable clothes and a tag that says, Dr. Hollow. He has brown well-kept hair and soft kind brown eyes that look troubled as he views the girl in front of him. He is unsettled by her. Unsure of what to do wich is something that rarely happens.
“Melione?” Dr. Hollow says. Melione lifts her face a bit to stare at him with her grey eyes. “Hello, Melione. My name is Dr. Hollow and I’m here to help you. Can you tell me what happened sweetheart?” He asks kindly. The little girl's eyes move to the ground and her eyelashes flutter.
“I hear babies crying, I watch them grow. They'll learn much more than I'll ever know. And I think to myself what a wonderful world.” Melione starts singing lightly. Dr. Hollow stares at his hands, his predicament causes him unease. Her father offered him money to be her therapist and help her so he wouldn't have to send his only daughter to a mental illness ward for children. His gut tells him to send her away just off of what he's heard but staring at this girl he can't. He wants more than anything to help her and being the best he would be the one to do it.
“Melione.” He says gently. “Sweetheart look at me.” Melione looks up at Dr. Hollow still whistling the tune. “Why did you carve that into the wall?” He asks holding up a photo. The photo captures a bright blue room with stuffed animals and clouds painted on the walls. It would be a beautiful and cute room if not for the word brutally stabbed into the wall.
Drown
Melione goes rigid and still. Her left-hand starts to shake and her three outside fingers twitch and drum. She stares at the word.
“For Mommy. She did a very bad thing.” Dr. Hollow tilts his head sadly.
“Is this about what your Mommy did to you?” Melione smiles and then puts her still twitching hand to her tiny neck and makes a funny face. Or what would have been a funny face if Dr. Hollow didn't know that she was pretending to drown. He leans forwards his hands shaking both with anger and fear. Meliones face changes. It becomes serious and guarded. Mature.
“She doesn't want to talk to you anymore.” Dr. Hollow stands up.
“Who am I talking to now?” Dr. Hollow asks. Melione looks up at him but doesn't answer.
“I will be back Melione. I just need to talk to your father.” Dr. Hollow says walking briskly out of the room, shutting the door behind him. He turns to see the black-haired grey-eyed man sitting with his face in his hands. Tired and sad.
“We’re done.” Dr. Hollow says causing the man to jump.
“You are? How is she? Can you help her?” The man asks.
“Mr..” Dr. Hollow starts.
“Jason. Please call me Jason.” The man says his face hopeful and eager.
“Very well. Jason. Your daughter is struggling. I believe she has some serious mental damage. Based on everything you have told me about what has happened to that poor girl I can hardly blame her. I believe that a mental facility would be beneficial especially since your wife is still at home and not in full-time treatment.” The mans face falls.
“I can't do that to her. I can't send her away.” Jason says.
“Then you need to get better and more permanent clinical help for your wife. What she did to your daughter is unacceptable. I understand wanting to keep your family together but you shouldn't at the expense of your daughter's life. Or your wife’s.” Dr. Hollow says holding up the photo of small choke marks on the woman's neck. On the man's wife's neck.
